The meeting is at capacity and registration is closed. If you have not already registered, and you submit an abstract, it will only be accepted if we are able to  move your registration from the wait list to confirmed status.

Abstracts should contain only new and unpublished material, and should only be submitted if at least one author plans to attend the meeting and present the work.

Abstracts will appear on the web and in the program and abstracts volume exactly as submitted, i.e., no corrections, additions, revisions or deletions will be made by the GSA staff. Revisions and corrections may be made by the author online no later than the December 13 revision deadline.  Please proof your text carefully before submitting.

A confirmation will appear directly online after a successful submission. Confirmation of abstract receipt will include an abstract control number, an author ID number for future reference and text of the abstract.  If you do not receive a confirmation immediately after you submit, your abstract was not successfully submitted.

Step 5

Enter author information.

Step 6

Enter abstract title. Do not use all capitol letters.

Step 7

Enter body of abstract. Check to ensure that the main body of the abstract does not exceed 2,500 characters, including spaces. The title, authors or affiliations should not be included in the main body of the abstract.

In addition to the invited speakers, the organizers and session chairs will pick a few abstracts from the submissions for inclusion in the concurrent sessions. All authors who submit an abstract will be expected to bring a poster even if you are asked to give a concurrent session talk.

Submission Rules & Guidelines

All authors will be asked to approve the following statement when submitting an abstract: "I have read, understand and agree to the submission rules and guidelines." Your abstract will not be programmed if this box has not been checked.

  1. An individual may be the presenting author of more than one abstract. The presenting author does not have to be the first author to appear on the abstract.

  2. Abstracts must be submitted with the intention that they will be presented if selected. Presenting authors are expected to attend the meeting and make the platform or poster presentation. Presenting authors should not submit abstracts if they do not plan to attend the meeting.

  3. A complete abstract should include a statement of purpose, methods used, and a summary of results in sufficient detail to support the conclusion. Statements such as "results will be described" should be avoided.

  4. Abstracts will appear online and in the program and abstract book exactly as submitted, i.e., no corrections, additions, revisions or deletions can be made by the GSA staff. Only the submitting author may make revisions and corrections via the online revision program. All revisions must be made no later than the December 13, 2012, revision deadline. Please proof your text carefully before submitting.

  5. All abstracts submitted will be assigned either a concurrent session or poster presentation at the discretion of the meeting organizers and their committee. The organizers review all abstracts submitted for presentation and determine whether an abstract is suitable for concurrent or poster presentation. Because requests for concurrent presentation far exceed slots available, authors should be prepared to present a poster if their abstract is not selected for a platform presentation.

  6. The Organizers reserve the right to decline a presentation to any submitted abstracts that lack scientific content or merit, or merely announce the availability of a resource or service.

Abstract Revisions

All revisions must be completed before midnight, December 13, 2012, U.S. East Coast time. Revisions will not be accepted after this date.

Abstract Withdrawals

The presenting author can withdraw their abstract on the abstract revision website. Withdrawal requests (from the presenting author only) should be made by midnight, US Eastern Standard Time on or before December 13, 2012. The author will need their last name, abstract control number and personal id number to enter the revision program.  All abstracts will be published and cannot be removed from publication after December 13, 2012.

Abstracts not withdrawn by December 13 will be reviewed and if selected for presentation will be published online.   This information can be accessed by the public and may be referenced by the Genetics Society of America Media Relations staff and others.

Program Book

The Program Book will be provided at the meeting to registrants and is included in the registration fee. A pdf of the program book will be available March 1, 2013.

Equipment for Oral Presentations

The following equipment will be provided in all plenary and concurrent sessions: a laptop computer, data projector, laser pointer and a lavaliere microphone.

Plenary speakers will have 20 minutes for their presentation and 5 minutes for question and answers.

Concurrent session speakers will have 15 minutes for their presentation and 5 minutes for question and answers.

Presenters must arrive 45 minutes prior to the start of their session to load their presentations. The preferred method is for presenters to load their presentation on the meeting computer. If you have movies or animation and they do not transfer well to the meeting computer, there will be hook-ups available for presenter’s computers. If you plan to use your computer, please bring the necessary cable.

Poster Sessions

There will be three poster sessions. Two authors will share a 4’ high x 8’ wide poster board. The useable space for each author will measure 3’10” (111.8 cm) wide x 3’10” (111.8 cm) high.  No materials for making posters will be available at the conference grounds. We encourage photos of the authors be attached to posters to facilitate identification by new members of the group. Abstracts submitted for poster presentation will be assigned to the session topic indicated on the submission. Posters will be grouped alphabetically by the presenting author’s last name (family name) in the research areas.

Cameras, Cell Phones and Video Recording Devices

By attending a GSA conference, you grant GSA with the right to use your photograph, name, and likeness for use in GSA educational, news, or promotional materials. GSA will take steps to avoid sharing the content of presentations and posters in order to protect unpublished data. Please note that the use of cameras and other recording devices in plenary, platform, and poster sessions is prohibited without expressed permission from an authorized GSA representative.

Poster Session Awards

2013 Winners

Awards will be given by the Fungal Genetics Conference for the best student poster presentations.
Awards will be given from the Genetics Society of America (GSA) to the best posters presented by post doctoral fellows who are GSA members. Both scientific merit and clarity of presentation will be taken into account.
